The "House of Miniature Project"...

School has started, now I can get back to mini work! I recently have had the desire to work on kits. My favorite are the House of Miniature kits. They are easy to work with, good quality and easy to "edit".
I have accumulated so many kits (it's something about ebay bidding), so I thought, "I better start putting these things together".

I'm starting with the Chippendale Wing Chair, it's such a great kit. So far I have put together 10 chairs in different fabrics including suede, chambray, linen and cotton. I usually edit the kits by adding more pipping and extra padding. I also cover them slightly different than the given instructions.

I'm calling this group of work, "The House of Miniature Project". My plan is to work on chairs, then sofas and the settees. Once I have completed the "soft" furniture, I will began to work on the wood items. I'm super excited to get to the wood work. I'm hoping to do a lot of editing with aging, rusting, and painting with Annie Sloan Chalk paints. I also want to try adding transfers and mosaics. Finger's X'd!

Here's a peek at a few of the chairs, still have to go back and finish out the details and wood base, but wanted to share. Hoping to have lots of items ready for Christmas.

So…This Week...

This was a very productive week for me regarding the Travel Trailer. I spent some time on the exterior, working on the door and window trim, the screen door, and decided on the accent color for the stripes and window flower box.
My favorite for the week though, was creating an oversized wood chair. I wanted a school house looking chair for the desk/table below the wall shelves. A few weeks ago I went to a local thrift store and almost purchased a wonderful vintage Oak Schoolhouse chair for my studio. For some reason, I decided not to buy it at that time. Once I returned home, I could not get it off my mind. The next morning I returned to the store to find it gone :(. When thinking of the design of the trailer, I knew I wanted that type of chair, but had no idea how to create it.
Snooping around Instagram, I found a wonderful artist from Finland (@slallaheikkila). I love everything she creates, including the perfect chair for the trailer! I contacted her to find out if the chair was a kit, or if she designed it. She created it based off of a rocker chair she has in her dollhouse. She was so kind and wanted to let me have the chair. I told her, I would try to make a version. I created the template (the sides) in Illustrator, then traced the design to wood and cut it out with a knife. I measured and cut the other parts out as I put it together. I LOVE this chair and can't wait to paint it.
As you can see from the flower box, I need to make tons of flowers. I think my goal for next week will be "flower making".

Happy Friday, have a wonderful weekend;).

Sweet Rose...

This vintage wing chair has great detail and an updated style with a new and fresh rose graphic fabric in a deep and soft coral(ish) and grey color. The nicely cushioned with piping, a grey and white stripe pillow and a weathered whitewash wood base. It's a sweet little chair.

Testing Sofas...

I've been busy! This weekend in addition to making the French Grain Sack Inspired Chair, I also started testing sofa designs. I love tufting and piping, so of course, this one has both. I played around with a few ideas, some not so successful. But this one, I love!

The one thing I will change for future sofas in this design, are the arms. I think it would have been more successful with a square arm. I also would like to add buttons in the tufting area. My intention was to have this one for sale, but I decided to keep this one for Chez Marcelle, the dollhouse I am working on. I think it's going to work perfectly in the artist studio.

Here's a peek at the design:

Miniature Dollhouse Wing Chairs Coming Soon!

Just wanted to share what I've been working on for the last week.
I have been obsessed with miniature wing chairs…forever! I've been playing out how to create them in my head for some time. This past week I carefully put together a House of Miniature wing chair, absorbing the instructions. I made a few changes to make it a little updated. I was really pleased with the result.
I then set out to create my own pattern based off of the HofM model, next thing I knew, I was putting together 10 chairs! I still have a bit more to do on each chair, some will have pillows that I have to make, but here's a peek.
I will have the fabulouslyflawedminiature wing chair, as well as several of the "upcycled" HofM wing chairs coming to my shop soon!
