Versatile Chambray Miniature Dollhouse Sofa….

This Miniature Dollhouse Sofa is made with a versatile chambray fabric. It has everything; cushion, piping, tufting, wood feet and buttons. It functions in a shabby, country, and even a contemporary setting. This one measures 6 1/4 wide x 2 1/2 deep by 3 1/4 tall. This sofa works wonderfully with many of the new upholstered chairs coming to fabuloulsyflawedminiatures Etsy shop.

Note: New Toss Pillows (in several sizes), Sofa Throws and Hats coming to the shop also;)

Testing Sofas...

I've been busy! This weekend in addition to making the French Grain Sack Inspired Chair, I also started testing sofa designs. I love tufting and piping, so of course, this one has both. I played around with a few ideas, some not so successful. But this one, I love!

The one thing I will change for future sofas in this design, are the arms. I think it would have been more successful with a square arm. I also would like to add buttons in the tufting area. My intention was to have this one for sale, but I decided to keep this one for Chez Marcelle, the dollhouse I am working on. I think it's going to work perfectly in the artist studio.

Here's a peek at the design:

Miniature French Grain Sack Inspired Upholstered Chair...

Last night I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning working on a project that I have been thinking (obsessing) about since I started working on the upholstered chairs.

The idea was to create a French Grain Sack Upholstered Chair. I actually have a few French Grain Sacks, but the fabric is much too thick to work in miniature, so I had to improvise. I chose a coarse linen. I was going for a vintage, stained look, so I pulled out a bunch of tea bags. I let the fabric absorb the tea color, then I sat tea bags here and there to get darker spots. While the fabric was drying I built the frame for the chair. (I'm getting really fast at building the frames…yahoo!)

I was very careful upholstering, as I only had a small amount of that tea stained fabric. Turns out I had just the right amount. Any mistakes…I would have been in trouble and in tears.

Here's how it turned out:

Dainty and Delightful...

A slight change to the pattern and you get a brand new look. This one has a square arm and a wrap around skirt with piping. As with all the chairs, it has nice cushion, wood feet, and a cute little pink pillow.
The fabric is a beautiful green with pink dots outlined in white.

If I Can Make a Chair, I Should Be Able to Make a Sofa...

I have been obsessing on upholstered chairs these last few weeks. While hanging out in Los Angeles, I purchased lots wonderful fabrics. Seeing the fabrics come to life is so addictive.

While working on a few chairs, it dawned on me, if I can make a chair, I should be able to make a sofa, a much needed sofa for staging!... (a slight deviation from my "chair" goal)

I put together a pattern for the sofa. It's the same look as the chairs, just longer. I wanted a larger, shabby-ish looking sofa. I went to the Restoration Hardware website to get an idea of the size. I compromised between and 72" (6 inches) and 84"(7 inches), and made the pattern 6 1/2 inches. While shopping for fabric, I stumbled upon a wonderful fabric that had a great texture. At the time, I didn't know what I would use if for, but I didn't want to pass it up. I decided to try it on the sofa. I love it! It is exactly what I need for staging some of the new items I have coming to the shop.
I'm loving the photos ;).

Now back to chairs…

Makes Me Think of Lemonade...

This is the 2nd chair I was working on yesterday. Another great fabric I found while visiting Los Angeles. Tried to go a little more modern, so I decided to leave off the skirt. Lots of piping and fresh fantastic colors…reminds me of lemonade. Now on to a few solid colors with tufting :0!

So Excited...

I'm so excited to share this wonderful news with you. My work is featured in American Miniaturist Magazine for August 2016! I was contacted a few months ago by the editor, Aurelea Krieger. She asked if I would be interested in having my minis in the magazine. "Absolutely", was my response!
I sent in tons of photos and answered a bunch of questions. I had no idea what it would look like. I am so excited and truly honored. I found out today that the magazine has gone out because I just receive a wonderful note from one of my customers who received her copy and read the feature.
I'm feeling super excited!

Oh, So Shabby...

A new challenge…
I am really enjoying making these chairs. This one is from 1 inch minis (Kris) tutorial I just finished. (Bad photo lighting ;(.
I made a slight change to the back of the chair. The color is Petal (a beautiful soft pink). It's made with 100% linen fabric. Instead of a skirt, I decided to add feet. I have challenged myself to make at least 8 in different colors and styles.
This group of chairs will be added to my shop at the beginning of August with lots of other new inventory I have coming.

Stay tuned…
